How it works

What does this old man voice sound like?

It is a mature male voice that speaks slowly and a little lower, like a calm grandfather telling a story. It comes from a standard AI voice with the speed slowed down and the pitch lowered slightly.

It is not a shaky, raspy or crackly voice, and it does not sound like a real 80-year-old. It sounds older, slower and wiser than the normal voice.

Tips for a better elderly voice

• Write in a storyteller style: "Come sit by me", "Long ago", "When I was your age".
• Use commas and full stops often. Pauses make the voice sound more thoughtful.
• Spell out years and numbers the way they should be said.
