Which British voices can I use?

The generator uses five UK English neural voices: Sonia, Libby and Maisie (female; Maisie sounds younger) and Ryan and Thomas (male). They speak standard British English (UK).

If you need another accent, the language menu also has English (Australia), English (Canada), English (India) and English (US) voices.

Where a British accent voice works well

• Phone greetings and on-hold messages for a UK business.
• Hearing how British English pronounces a word or a whole sentence, for learners and actors.

Tips for a more natural British read

• Use British spelling and words in your text, such as "colour", "flat", "queue" or "half past two". The voice reads what you write, it does not translate American English into British English.
• Write numbers and times the way a British speaker says them, for example "half five" or "twenty quid".
• Use commas for short pauses and full stops for longer ones, then play it back and adjust.

What this tool does and does not do

• It turns typed text into speech in a British accent and gives you an MP3.
• It does not change the accent of your own recording. It is text to speech, not a voice changer.
• It does not have Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Northern or Cockney voices, and it has no speed or pitch sliders.
