Free clips are up to 500 characters, with no sign-up and no watermark. Longer scripts, voice cloning and more voices are on the paid plans.

How it works

  1. Paste your story into the box above. Keep each clip under 500 characters, or split a longer story at the end of a scene and make one clip per part.
  2. Choose a language and a voice, then press play. Listen once with a timer running and fix any sentence that sounds rushed by adding a comma or a full stop.
  3. Download the MP3 and play it at bedtime, or keep it for a slideshow or a video that needs a calm narrator.

What this page does and does not do

  • It reads a story you give it aloud and gives you an MP3 file.
  • It does not write stories. It will not invent characters or a plot for you, so write or find the story first and paste it in.
  • It uses standard AI voices. It does not add background music, sound effects or a sleep timer.
  • The free box takes up to 500 characters per clip, which is roughly half a minute of narration. Longer stories are split into parts.

How to make a bedtime story sound good when read aloud

  • Use short sentences with one idea each. Young listeners follow short lines more easily at night.
  • Keep the same character names all the way through, so the listener always knows who is speaking.
  • Put the sounds into words, such as a soft hum or a creaking door, because no sound effects are added.
  • End on a slow, gentle line such as "goodnight" so the story closes calmly.

Who uses a bedtime story reader

Parents who want a story to play when they are busy or away, teachers who set up a listening corner, and children who like to hear the same story again. Many people use a read-aloud clip as a second voice at bedtime, not as a replacement for a parent reading in person.

Frequently asked questions

Is the bedtime story reader free?

Yes, the text to speech box is free to try. Each clip is up to 500 characters, and you can download the result as an MP3.

Does it write the bedtime story for me?

No. This page reads a story you paste in. It does not generate new characters, plots or endings.

Can I make a whole story in one clip?

Not on the free tool, which takes up to 500 characters per clip. Split a longer story at a scene break, make one clip per part and play them in order.

Does it add music or sound effects?

No. You get the spoken voice only. If you want music underneath, download the MP3 and add it in a free audio editor.

Can I read stories in other languages?

Yes. Choose a language in the box and paste text in that language. Voice quality varies by language, so listen to a sample first.

Do I need an account?

You can try the free box without signing up. Paid plans need an account for billing.

Need more than a short clip?

The free box above is capped at 500 characters per clip. If you need longer scripts (up to 5,000 characters per generation), voice cloning or higher-quality voices, take a look at the plans. Nothing here is required to use the free tool.
